Manhole Monday: 40 covers

I turn 40 in August.
Before you go running out to get me a gift, it’s important to note that I’m not a big fan of gifts…or parties…or surprises. *cue the violin music*
Want to know what I am a fan of?
Manhole covers!
Here’s where you come in.
I’m organizing a project dedicated to manhole covers and people who are 40, turning 40 or have turned 40. I’m asking you, my fellow cover lovers, to take a picture of a manhole cover that you like and send it to me with the tag . I love the idea of crowd sourcing pictures and then collectively displaying them but I wanted this project to be more than pretty pictures. I wanted to ‘give back’. So, I’m asking that when you send the picture, please include one piece of advice (140 characters or less) that has impacted your career. Here’s one from me as an example, I can’t tell you how much this has served me over the years:

Don’t be emotional when presenting a project, negotiating your salary, or having an uncomfortable conversation. Just stick to the facts.

This project will be curated on Twitter (@40covers) and Instagram (@fortycovers) and can be sent to either place. If the bird and the ‘gram aren’t your thing, you can email them to me at I will be collecting the pictures and career advice through the end of August. The top 40 covers (picked by me because I’m turning 40) will be featured on a poster with the career advice underneath (with your permission of course). To get you in the mood, here are some amazing covers I have found throughout my travels:
