What I remember most about the typography in Austin, TX, was how new everything felt. There are old signs and history sprinkled within the streets but for the most part, Austin felt like a new up and coming city bursting with energy. This was in stark contrast to the feeling I got from San Antonio, TX where I was bombarded with beautiful hand lettering and older signs being eaten away by the weather. The newer signs in Austin are well designed and gave the city a hip vibe but nothing beats the older signs and the history that they bring. Sandy’s is tucked into the SoCo (South of Congress) area and is a local favorite.
12It seems Sandy’s is known for their hamburgers but this sign just feels like dessert…right down to the apostrophe!345Here are some other great ice cream signs.
