Throwback Thursday: punctuation

This post was originally published on September 20, 2011:

Punctuation has a special place in my heart. I love letters and numbers but I really love punctuation. I especially love punctuation when it’s the star of the show. I walked by this pizzeria in Tequis and couldn’t believe my eyes. That blue lettering is way brighter in person so the red punctuation really stands out. Does it get better than a color change just for the commas and the period? I don’t think so. The kerning is so tight, especially between the words, it’s almost painful to read. Those red commas save the day.

The All-Local farmer’s market is in downtown Columbia, SC. This lettering is painted on the side of the building. I’m still confused about the message (either you have bananas or you don’t, right?!) but what I’m not confused about is the awesome punctuation. Those quotation marks are out of control. The kerning between the letters is pretty perfect except for the space between Yes and we. Once again, the comma saves the day. And what a beautiful comma it is.
