manhole monday: tiny marker

1While walking around cities, one of my favorite typographic finds are manhole covers that are specific to the city they are in. I thought this one found in San Antonio was especially neat because it marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Texas. I love the illustration merging the outline of the alamo with the star from the Texas state flag. Here’s another one I found with just the illustration: 2But what REALLY caught my eye was the size of these suckers. Here are my pink shoes to give a sense of scale:
3I was told that these tiny covers mark the place that poles go when there is an event that needs to be roped off. I have never seen markers for that before, especially this tiny.
