black lettering on stone

I thought this was an interesting pairing. Not much beats perfectly kerned black letters set on top of stone. While in DC a few years ago, one of our must-sees was the national headquarters of the American Institute of Architects. Nothing surprising about the type. A perfect type choice for the organization and the location. I’m usually not a fan of all uppercase serif lettering but this is so perfectly kerned, it just works.

The same can be said for the Akron Zoo picture (sorry for the random kids in the picture): a perfect type choice for the organization and the location. Black sans-serif lettering, all uppercase set on stone, perfectly kerned. Perfection.
